March 20th, 2025 - Water Safety Statement
Watershed Conditions Statement: Water Safety
Thursday, March 20th, 2025 to Monday, March 24th, 2025
Saugeen Conservation advises that the Flood Watch statement issued for the municipalities of Arran-Elderslie and Brockton has been downgraded to a Water Safety statement. The Water Safety statement previously issued for the rest of the watershed will remain in place until Monday, March 24th, 2025.
ALL SAUGEEN WATERSHED MUNICIPALITIES – Municipality of Arran-Elderslie, Municipality of Brockton, Township of Chatsworth, Municipality of Grey Highlands, Town of Hanover, Township of Howick, Municipality of Morris-Turnberry, Municipality of South Bruce, Township of Huron-Kinloss, Municipality of Kincardine, Town of Minto, Township of Wellington-North, Town of Saugeen Shores, Township of Southgate, Municipality of West Grey.
Above seasonal temperatures between Friday, March 14th and Thursday, March 20th have resulted in an almost complete melt of the snowpack. This, in combination with rainfall over the past weekend, has resulted in elevated water levels in all watercourses. Small watercourses generally peaked on Sunday and early Monday, while larger watercourses were slower to respond and did not peak until late Monday and into Tuesday.
Water levels are now declining; however watercourses remain high and continue to pose a significant risk to public safety. These conditions are expected to persist into early next week.
High water levels, fast-flowing water, and slippery stream banks will continue to create hazardous conditions near all waterways. The public is reminded to stay away from all watercourses and structures such as bridges, culverts, and dams.
Saugeen Conservation staff will continue to monitor watershed conditions and will provide an update if conditions change. This message will remain in effect until Monday, March 24th, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. unless updated otherwise.
