Firewood
DON'T MOVE FIREWOOD!
Firewood can often contain insects and plant diseases. Campers who bring firewood from home may spread diseases. These diseases threaten Ontario's parks, and the health of our forests.
Firewood is one of the easiest ways for the insects to travel. Dormant insects or eggs can move via firewood from infested trees.
The Emerald Ash Borer is an aggressive species identified in this area. You can find this species inside firewood from other areas. The effects of these insects can be devastating to the natural environment. The natural controls in Canada help keep this from happening.
Staff at the campgrounds in the SVCA Conservation Areas will ask if you are bringing in any firewood. Please help us by using firewood designated for the park. While this may be an inconvenience, it is necessary for the protection of our living forests. It also supports our local ecosystem.
If you have questions:
- Check with park staff
- Call the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) at 1-800-442-2342
- Visit Government of Canada Don't move firewood - Prevent the spread of pests
Thanks for your co-operation to help stop the spread of these invasive insects and destructive diseases.
