Saugeen Conservation Commences Critical Floodplain Mapping Study in Saugeen Shores
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – July 27th, 2023
Saugeen Conservation in Partnership with Water’s Edge Environmental Solutions,Commence Critical Floodplain Mapping Study
TOWN OF SAUGEEN SHORES, ONTARIO –
In an effort to bolster community resilience and safety, Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA), in collaboration with Water’s Edge Environmental Solutions, has launched a vital study to update floodplain mapping in the Southampton area. The primary goal of this initiative is to enhance our understanding of flood risks and potential mitigation measures.
The field survey, which will be conducted now through October 2023, will focus on properties within a specific survey boundary. Key data will be collected, including measurements of culverts, structures, and cross-sections of the local river or creek. All of which are essential to accurately mapping flood hazards within our region.
Residents can rest assured that Water's Edge survey professionals will conduct their activities with the utmost respect for property and privacy.
SVCA and Water's Edge highly value the engagement and input of landowners and the wider public. As such, a public information session is planned for fall/winter 2023. This will provide community members with an opportunity to review the collected data, ask questions, and provide invaluable feedback.
The Town of Saugeen Shores supports this project and has provided advanced funding, alongside a federal funding program.
Any concerns or questions regarding this initiative should be directed to the project team members. The collaboration between SVCA and Water's Edge is committed to working together with the community to ensure its safety and well-being.
