SVCA receives funding from RBC Foundation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – March 18th, 2025
Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority receives funding from RBC Foundation to advance flood and drought forecasting.
SAUGEEN WATERSHED, ONTARIO – Bruce, Dufferin, Huron, Grey, and Wellington Counties
Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) is pleased to announce a $10,000 donation from RBC Foundation to enhance its hydrometric network and improve real-time data collection for flood and drought forecasting. This funding will help enable SVCA to upgrade aging stream gauge equipment and ensure a continuous flow of water level, streamflow, and precipitation data.
As climate change increases the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, accurate and timely data is essential for protecting communities from natural hazards. “1.5 million homes in Canada are uninsurable for flooding,” said Melanie Green, Regional Vice President, Central Shores, RBC. “These enhanced monitoring capabilities will improve the reliability of SVCA’s data, helping organizations and individuals mitigate risks by preparing accordingly.”
This funding represents a significant investment in public safety and environmental stewardship, reinforcing SVCA’s commitment to using innovative technologies to strengthen watershed management across five counties.
