Managed Forests
Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority owns more than 8,000 hectares of land. Most of this land is considered “managed forest”.
Managed forests are guided by both operating plans and the Forest Management Plan. The goal of SVCA’s managed forests is to demonstrate what good forest management should look like.
These forests are examples of how balancing objectives can still result in meeting a broad scope of goals.
The purpose of the Forest Management Plan is to manage these lands in a professional and sustainable manner to ensure the forest ecosystems are kept in a diverse, vigorous, and healthy condition. The plan outlines a strategic vision and a commitment to protect forest values in the Saugeen watershed area and describes the harvesting, regeneration and other activities to be carried out to achieve the management objectives.
This plan was put together by authority staff, with input from the general public in 2005 and was updated in 2015.
Operating plans are developed for each property that outline the details of the ecosystems contained on the property. It will recommend activities that may be undertaken to maintain those ecosystems in line with the goals of the Forest Management Plan.
Our Forest Management Plan is an umbrella document that outlines the general details of SVCA's watershed, the management goals of the authority, and all aspects of carrying out management activities to achieve the forestry goals.
